Re: Mini me build
id just leave it and get a z6 or y8 to swap... the mini-me swap it pretty pointless just find a cam if u want to make 10hp and get bolt ons if u never plan to boost. these d motors only make power with boost and the d15 is the weakest

Re: Mini me build
If you are still wanting to do the mini me mod on your B7 block, the easiest method is the Z6 head being it seems to need the least amount of tweaking. The Y8 head really should be tuned which adds to the cost.
The only thing you can do cheaply to improve the block is to magneflux dye test your rods first, once confirmed crack free have them shot peened to remove any burs that cause cracking under stress.
Then you could safely raise your rpm limit to 7200 without too much worry. But I probably wouldn't go any higher than that on the B7 rods.
The other option is custom forged rods for the small B7 crank or getting a JDM D15B VTEC crank which has the larger rod journals over the B7 crank.
Both options are a bit more expensive over shot peening the stock rods.

Re: Mini me build
all of what you listed will cost the same as a b18c1 which would put a "built d15" in the ground. sorry just the truth of it d-series are a waste unless you want to make a simple turbo'd car.

This sounds like a horrible waste of time when bigger more powerful motors are available for cheap.

Re: Mini me build
I never said it wasn't a waste of time. Just saying if he had his heart set on it, those were some options for the economy block.
For me it's cheaper being I have a spare b7 block and two Y8 heads sitting around. I don't have a B series motor sitting around nor would I spend money on one being if I'm shelling out the real cash, I'd put a K series motor into my EG and do it right.
I didn't pay anything for the Y8 heads and the spare block came from buying a lightly used B7 motor to keep my economy and car on it's stock setup. The motor only cost me 450. I think a B18C1 would cost me over a grand.
A mini me was considered a cheap way to get an extra 20-40 hp depending on the setup. (500 or less often times).
Last I knew a decent B swap was 1500 or more not counting labour.
The B swap definitely offers way more than just a 20-40 horse kick though at the cost of fuel economy.
My personal desire is for the dual vtec D15B JDM motor with a small turbo. Tuned properly you can get 55 mpg and get a wicked wider and linear power band. Keep the fuel economy and just enough kick to be fun in the mountains and hwy.
Personally I wouldn't build a b7 block, the most I'd do is dye test and shot peen the rods before putting it back together just for more reliability on the higher rpm of the mini me. shot peening and dye testing can be done for a couple of hundred around here.

Thanks guys all I can do is get it done and hope
The car dose fine can't put real money in to it
I'm broke I got the b7 for $80 could have got another
Z6 but it was rusty and did not look good at all
So I went with the b7 now shot peen and dye
Testing I will have to ask around about that thanks
Again for the input
