i did a mini me swap with a d15b7 bottom and a d16y8 head. i had to use a timming belt for the y8 so i would say try the belt for the head you are using.

Yep, pretty simple. just get the belt for the head you're using.

I.E.

y8 head on a y7 = y8 belt

EDIT: apparently it's different for 5th gen motors and the "belt for the head" rule of thumb is questionable.

Eh, I think last time I checked w/ a B7 block and a Z6 head it's a VX timing belt - I don't think it's the same one as the head as different heads place the cam differently than others.

I don't recall perfectly, but I'm 90% sure it's not always the same as the head - bad way of going about doing it.

Ask BauleyCivic. He did a B7 w/ a Z6 head, but he still might know. If that doesn't work PM bense, he's got extensive experience with the Z1 (VX) transmission and could probably tell you something.

this writeup says that the z6 timing belt is the one to use. i've seen/heard more people say to match the timing belt to the head, so that's what I plan on, but I haven't done it yet.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Several places on the net and several people on Honda-Tech say that the VX (D15Z1) timing belt is the one to use for this swap because it is for a 1.5L VTEC. THIS IS INCORRECT! When I did the initial head swap, I used a VX timing belt. The VX timing belt was WAY too tight, and whined when the engine was at high rpm. I unfortunately did not discover this until the entire head was assembled. The VX timing belt has 103 teeth, where as the Z6 timing belt has 104 teeth, and the B7 belt 106 teeth. I was finally able to replace the VX timing belt with the Z6 timing belt, and the Z6 timing belt fit much better and didn’t whine. THE D16Z6 timing belt is the correct belt to use with a B7 block / Z6 head combination.</TD></TR></TABLE>
