Major Oil Leak, Rear Main Seal? PLEASE HELP!!!!
I recently bouhgt a 95 Civic dx Hatch w/ a B16A3 and it leaks and burns oil. I have driven the car about 500 miles and I've already gone through 2 quarts. How do i find out where the leak is coming from and what's causing my oil to burn. It overheated awhile ago and I replaced the radiator so maybe my rings are bad, my head gasket is blown or I warped my head. Thanks for your help!

Re: Major Oil Leak, Rear Main Seal? PLEASE HELP!!!! (Marauder)
It leaks oil and the second issue is the burning oil 1) I'm trying to find out where the oil is leaking from 2) smoke and the smell of burning oil rise from the hood when i run it hard and there is so much black soot exiting my exhaust that it's building up on the bumper....... I want to find out if it's a blown head gasket that's causing the oil leak

Well,
If you want to know where the leak is coming from, you need to wash your engine and transmission THOROUGHLY so you can pinpoint where it's coming from exactly. Then, you'll know what to replace. Easy as that.
Now,
As for the black soot coming out of your exhaust, you probably have a few shot piston rings. This is bad. If you don't want to continue to burn oil, I suggest you tear apart the block and replace your rings, if that's the problem.
Previous owner probably ragged on it, now you have the problems. Why I NEVER buy someone else's nightmare.

yes clean and wash then look for probs and then from there check compression for your seals but then just start replacing things like head gasket when you have that apart that might show your prob good luck and let us know

my boy just had this problem....if it's not the head gasket then it's most likely the rear main seal and that is a pain to replace. good luck!!

but the rear main seal would cause a leak and the head gasket would be the source of the burning oil they are to seperate problems but would a compression and leakdown test tell me what the problem is?
