main relay problem?
I noticed my 92 civic dx, sometimes on warmer days, when i go into my car i get one or two excessivly long cranks. Thing wont start. But usually by the third time it will start up fine. Sometimes when the car starts up, it will stall out shortly after (few seconds). I m almost convinced it is a main relay.
Does anyone agree this may be the prob? I have seen no Cel lights, cel light is working.
And if so, is the part i need the fuel pump main relay?
and if so will this fuel pump relay from rock auto do me any good:

Re: main relay problem?
It certainly sounds like something the main relay would do. It's a common problem with older Civics, so you're not alone. You can pull it out and check it. It's located up and to the left of the under-dash fuse box. Unbolt the 10mm bolt holding it on and take off the plastic cover. Inspect the solder joints on the computer board carefully for ring-shaped cracks. You can go buy a new one if you really want to, but it's not necessary. All you really need to do is get a soldering iron and maybe some rosin core solder and resolder the joints. I was having a similar problem with mine just a month or so ago and resoldering the main relay did the trick nicely. If it's acting up it won't throw any CEL codes... at least mine didn't. See the FAQs in the stickies on this subforum for more details. Here's a link for you about it http://techauto.awardspace.com/mainrelay.html.
