Default Main Bearing Throw out Bearing?

alright guys i had a clutch installed on my d15b awhile ago when the swap got installed, i also got a brand new tranny. anyways a little bit after the clutch got installed i noticed a sound when the clutch is out and not pushed in i cant describe it but people say its a throw out bearing, but i havent had it checked out. anyways when i push in the clutch it goes away, when i drive say im in first gear and at a certen rpm i can hear a weird sound get somewhat loud almost like a weird vtec sound lol. and it gose grind when i redline first and slam it into second but no other gears, any ideas?

Sounds like a bad isb(input shaft bearing). If you had a bad throw out bearing the noise would go away when the clutch was out and come back when you had the clutch pushed in.

Yeah, it is safe but it is annoying. I drove for about a year like that until I had it replaced. It is about a $20 part from Honda but the labor is where it is expensive.

It's safe to leave it alone, but if you leave it alone too long you risk having the input shaft of the transmission wander too far off center, which will create more ($$$) problems.

BTW, if you're running an aftermarket MTF, I did notice that my ISB was fine for over 70,000 miles but died within 500 miles after switching to an aftermarket fluid... my synchros got balky too. Flipping back to Honda MTF at least cured them, but once the ISB dies it has to be replaced.

yes bearing is really cheap. but you have to take the whole ******* transmission apart to get to it. i fucked my trans up when i tried to do it. never had done this before and didn't know how to get it back together. have a shop do it. just drop the trans yourself and bring it to shop.
