Default LS motor, 2000 Civic Hatch, limp mode, and can't read CEL, I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

A little background-I just bought a 2000 civic hatch with a b18a1 swap in it and I thought it would be a nice project. The car was not running. The timing belt had broke on the car, so I slapped on a different head, all new gaskets and headgasket, new timing belt and water pump, and readjusted the valves, etc.

Now, I hear the car start and run for the first time, but it is in limp mode and would rev past 3000 rpm. I rented a CEL tester form an auto parts store and tried to run the test, but it cannot read the vehicle at all!! I plug it up to my other civics and it works fine. For some reason on this hatch, when the key is in the on mode, the CEL isnt on (until you start the car), so the tester cant read the codes??
EDIT: found out a jumper harness from obd2b-obd1 for the ecu will not allow the scanner to read the car!!!!(thanks vtec-king)

I need help pin-pointing the problem, and to find out how I can read the CEL. The motor is a B18a1, ecu is a pr4-A61, and I think he used the engine harness from the 2000 base model hatchback that came with the car. There are 4 plugs that dont plug up to anything, and there is a sensor on the rear driver side intake manifold that isnt plugged in. I dont know if this is normal or not.

EDIT:How do I know what OBD my dizzy is? How do I know What the Crank position sensor plug looks like and what it is?

Anyone, please help me with my problem. I think there is another way to check the CEL, but I dont know how. PLEASE HELP. Im desprate!!

If anyone needs any more information, please let me know and I will get it.

Thanks

dude it kinda hard to tell cause what you saying cant really tell by if you you get us a picture we might be able to tell you and try another ecu sounds like a solid cel to me that will cause it to go in limp mode or is the ecu chipped if so did you get a magnet by the ecu that could be the problem erased the mapp off the chip

did you use a obd2b-obd1 jumper harness?...if so....i found it easy to get a dizzy jumper harness to go from obd2-obd1....so instead of using a obd2 dizzy you can use a obd1 dizzy....b/c obd2 motors have a few diff. sensors then obd1....like crank pos. is down at the crank in obd2...in obd1 its in the dizzy...so use a obd1 dizzy bc the b18a1 dosn't have that sensor at the crank pully....it makes it much easier....and if you have a ecu jumper harness the scanner will not work....gl

Very, Very great advises!! I tried a different ecu(p75-a01) from a 95 integra ls manual, and the car drove crappier. So That didnt help.

I do have a OBD2b-OBD1 jumper harness on the ecu, and that explains why the scanner is not working. How do I know what OBD my dizzy is? How do I know What the Crank position sensor plug looks like and what it is?
