Lower control arm/ball joint bending dust shield - 93 Hatch
Just recently discovered a problem where because the car is lowered, the lower ball joint area and the lower control arm seem to be pressing into my dust shield for the brakes and bending it in....on the passenger side front.
Only seems to be happening on the one side though. The car has been lowered for a long time and I have never seen this before. I did just recently change the rotors up front though, but can't see why this would have caused this.
Anyone else have this happen?

when you swapped your rotors, you probably bent the shield. just bend it back.

No, I guess I wasn't clear. When I found the problem, I did bend it back, put the wheel back on and spun it. No noise. Good deal.
However, when I lower the car back down using the jack, I believe the dust shield is getting bent again and causing some noise. And it seems like the lower ball joint nut /lower control arm area is causing this.
Just wondering if this had happened to anyone before, because it is only happening on the one side, not both, which seems odd to me.
I just need to look at it some more. Thanks.

Check to make sure that the stud is sticking out through the castle nut as much as the other side. mabey the nut isn't bottomed out all the way on the balljoint stud. I have never seen this problem befor.

well, the good news is that once I solve this, I believe my brake noises will disappear.
I think i have been working on the wrong wheel this whole time trying to diagnose the problem with the brake noise...but the thing was when I first started, I went around to each wheel, jacked it up and spun it to see which wheel was causing the issue....but since the front wheel didn't make the noise until it had the car weight pressing down on it, it led me on a wild chase for mysterious noises.
Go figure.

SWEEEEET!
Congrats on finding your problem buddy. I know what it's like to chase noises around (especially in the suspension dept). I am still searching for a pop noise on my 89 CRX Si. I just found were my steering wobble was coming from too (inner rack end bushing ). The first one is still driving me crazy...
Al least you know you've got good working rears now.

Amen to that. I have been driving her all week and things seem good except for that noise. But I adjusted some things last night and this morning and it is doing it less, so a few more tweaks should get it.
Then get my interior back together, fix the rattle on my rear window, get my radio installed again with my new audio console, and I should be good to go for a bit.
he he. I say that every time.
Thanks for the help.
