Car is 97 4dr EX. Auto, d16y8....

Ok, so I have noticed over the last couple weeks that when I am driving around town with speeds under 40mph, if I take my foot off the gas it feels like I am pressing my brakes... At speeds over 60 this dosent happen. I am guesing that my torque converter is not unlocking properly at low speed... (This is assuming that mine is a locking one, right?) I have checked the fluid and it is to the full warm mark, and doesnt look nasty..

Any ideas of what I should look at? Recently bought this car for 700, replaced the head gasket and am regularly getting 38 - 42 MPG on the highway... Just gotta straighten out a few of these annoyances.

cerian times it has alot of engine break and other it dosent. Its the nature of the auto tragic in these cars. I really hate how it will down shift when coming hot into a corner. cant tell you how many time its thrown me almost off the road. But then again i shouldnt drive the back roads like a race track.

I get the same thing. In my girlfriends car when releasing the gas pedal it's like it has a little bit of brakes applied. Confuses me too O.o

ok, as long as its not just my car that does it. I was looking into getting the tranny fluid from Honda to swap out.... Glad I dont have to now.
