DOHC VTEC has VTEC lobes on both intake and exhaust cam.

While the SOHC only has it on the Intake.

I think my Y8 is pretty loud period..Its just got an AEM SRI right now, and people tell me that they can hear it from inside there house if Im rippin on it down a road. I think its sorta loud considering its basically a stock Y8. Yet, I'll try and get a video for y'all some time.

Locally, theres a DA with what Im sure at Toda VTEC Killer cams cause it sounds like he misshifts cause he drops out of VTEC So hard when switching gears. He can go 1-2-3-4 and such but it sounds like he misses gears his crossover is sooo ****ing insane.

Yea, I got a JDM D15B Block And Y8 Head. And the V Tec Is loud but weak. I had it on the computer for a while. but the wires messed up. so i ran it on a switch. and ill punch that **** in 4th gear at 2200RPM all the way to 7500RPM and ill be clicking the switch on off on off on off and i don't feel no difference i just hear a loud *** difference. so right now im all motor no v tec and it feels faster if anything.

I guess ill find out when i run this motor at the track 1/4 and ill do a run no v tec and one with v tec.

Its been shown that VTEC on a SOHC will pick up like 2/10ths or some ****, I read a thread a long time ago about it. I think it's one of the Minime FAQ/DIY's that shows .2 faster with VTEC.

my first swap was a b16 in a crx, stock exhaust with no muffler and 5 inch tip!!! lol sweet huh? anyways i wrecked it and put the same motor in a 91 teg with full exhaust and the "crossover" was not nearly as loud. i believe that the exhaust has more to do with the sound then the motor especially when you are talking about mostly stock motors

i'm glad to see an interjection of technical wizardry from b18c5 and targa, cause i swear everytime somebody refers to vtec " Pop'n " or " CracKin' " i feel the intense urge to punch an infant in the throat.

get the car tuned
the vtec itself can be retard'ed (late) which can cause the vtec to kick in a little harder and or louder with in higher rpm
or was it advanced ionnu i am drunk wasted right now i am seeeing double but i do know that the car needs to be properly tuned because the fact is that you should be able to hear the vtec change over but not to drastically though so get the thing tunned properly and it can depend also of what kinda ecu tjat you are running that could be causing the issue cus the may have the wrong mapping on it so get the thing tunned

i dunno what you guys are all talking about...

on a totally bone stock b16 you will feel vtec, however it won't be "loud" until
you put an CAI or short ram intake on it. The reason why it gets louder is cuz of
the intake sucking in more air.

the car will pull harder because you're letting in more air and you're adding more fuel
giving you more power.

i've owned a few b16s and they all sound the same. loud as **** with an intake on,
and pull like crazy. my low and midrange are decent but when vtec kicks you can't help but smile.

as long as your engine is maintained all should be well. when you tune your engine the transition to vtec will be smoother cuz you're actually gettting more out of the low to mid range which is why on a tuned engine it don't kick as hard as a stock one.

and toda vtec killer cams don't have vtec, hence the name vtec killer cams.

How does adding an intake involve "adding more fuel" as well? Did your intake come with a fuel pressure regulator or piggyback fuel controller in the box with the filter and intake arm?

That's not the reason at all.

Eh...I personally think the 5500rpm engagement on my Y8 is a little too late, I think by 5k or 5200 it should engage, that extra 500rpm just seems to drag to get to and then I only got til 7 so it seems sorta worthless.

an intake doesnt add more fuel, it sounds louder becuase its no longer resonated
