Loud Noise at Start Up
This just started happening to me yesterday. When I start my car, a LOUD clunking noise comes from the tranny and then it starts right up. I drove it around the block and the motor, tranny, and clutch seemed normal. Any input you guys can give me on what the noise might be and what I should check for would be greatly appreciated.

could be that or your clutch is loose possible flywheel being loose who knows i say drain the trans put new oil in and see if that stops it if it doesnt then something eather in the trans or clutch and flywheel

Re: (ballerchild)
The starter bendix is probably jamming half-way out of the flywheel and causing a collision that jars it free. It's not an uncommon issue If your starter hasn't had problems in the past, it might be going out. I point to that as the most likely culprit. If you get a new one and the problem persists, a.) I'll be surprised and b.) you can just take it back and tell them it was the wrong one.
Good luck.

I wouldn't bother, as no amount (or lack thereof) of fluid in the transmission would cause clunking noises. Whining and grinding perhaps, but not clunking.

Yea, i've had problems in the past with my starter, but a tap with my trusty screwdriver always worked wonders for me. I guess i'll be heading to the marketplace for a new starter. Thanks
