loud chatter noise in gear driving 99 SI? (searched)
Yeah, so, buying a 99 SI since last was stolen... (Ive searched and was only confused by the results)
71,000 miles on it
Problem is, everything runs and feels great, except.
When in gear, and moving, there is a loud chatter noise, kind of beefy if you understand that, not like.. a chirping chatter, but a chatter with the chirp but moreso a deeper rattle, like if you had two plastic gears with too much space inbetween the splines.
-During all of this, clutch, and everything feels smooth no roughness or resistance felt while driving. Switching gears really didn't have a problem, but it was harder to get into reverse.
-When in neutral and reving, smooth, no sound...
-When clutch is pressed in, smooth, no sound...
-In gear driving over say 5mph, and increasing to a certain level with RPM/speed, couldn't tell which if not both.
Any ideas? I've tried explaining it more, but I can give more detail I think if you need to know something.
Thanks in advance.

Re: loud chatter noise in gear driving 99 SI? (Turblow.Com)
that tis the question.. imput, throwout, or fluid level? I just need to narrow this down... If I can get this fixed under or at 500 no sweat, but honda dealer was going 800 or more for imput shaft, and 1000 or more to do the whole clutch package, which I know is a rip off....

i think you fried the clutch disc...this also happened to me and i was missing a chunk on the disc..which didnt allow the pressure plate to release properly. This also happened when i had the generic plastic/metal throwout bearing that came with the exedy kit...change the clutch.

Re: (tempsohc)
Thanks for that search, as for the clutch and what I did, ... nothing yet... Im taking it in to get checked by more intelligent ears than mine. If it is a routine maintanance part... like the clutch.. well ok, it may cost a lot but at least it is taken care of now, its about time anyways... I just hope it isnt another type of problem... I guess I should find out tomorrow.
