Default losing power in em1..... :(

well i was runnng low on oil today, and i decided to put some in. i might have put a lil to much. i think i put at least half a quart of oil in the car. i know i was running ow because vtec didnt hit what so ever. but i was driving on the highway tonight and in 5th gear, at about 3,400 rpms, it loses power and it slows down and keeps slowing down no matter how hard i press on the gas. then i stop the car. turned it off, then turned it back on and it ran fine. maybe 2 min later, it does the exact same thing. so i do the same thing before. and it runs fine. but this time, it will rn, but it runs like crap. it seems as if i have no powr what so ever. but it runs tho. so i stop the car again, let it chil for 10 mins. then drive it back about another 5 miles and it runs as it should until i get home. did i put too much oil in the car, and too much oil pressure was built up? can it be an ignition system problem? btw, the vtec solenoid works, cuz it didnt pull the code when i ran it. can anyoe help me? is my problem bad? did i throw a rod bearing? well iunno, cuz i didnt hear a knocking. but if anyone can help me, please do so, cuz this has never happened to me before.

hrmmmm speed sensor went out?? did you know that the vehicle speed sensor and the alternator are related??? check ur in car fuse. I think its fuse #15.. both alternator and vss share the same fuse.. I think you need to replace it with a 10 but yeah that would make sense.. your alternator isnt working well and its probably draining ur battery in the future.. try starting ur car and then disconnect the battery plug and see if it still runs.. if it doesnt run then ur alternator is bad...

I doubt that your vss is going bad.. it might just be the fuse.. check that first.. usually it gets blown..

no, i think my vss is out, cuz the code pulled p500, which is the vehicle speed sensor A the the sensor stopped working completely. it was working half the time for 2 weeks, but then gradually over time, it slowly stopped working. so i dont think its a fuse. the sped sensor is out.

VTEC will not work if the speed sensor is not working.

I had kind of the same problem on my 88 crx and it turned out the cat was clogged. I was driving and progressively the top speed was reducing. By the time I figured it out I was only able to top out at about 45 mph. It did this because my car had excessive oil burning which ruined my cat. Just keep that in mind!

I had this same exact problem in my 94 civic. No CELs, falls on its face at about 3500 rpms in every gear. Car has no ***** at all. Speedo and all gauges work fine. No misfires or anything. Some other guys on here seem to think its the whole distributor. ALthough Its hard to spend the money to replace it if that isnt the problem. Anyone help?

You guys need to check your primary o2 sensor. Someitmes if can be going bad but just not throwing the code yet. I've heard of cases where the car starts funning like **** and the ECU sends it into limp mode and wont go past 3500 rpms. This sounds like your problem kkilo. Ive also heard of it messing with the speed sensor as well so em1gangsta may want to check that out as well.

but in limp mode its a hard rpm limiter. Mine will rev past 3500 in neutral, and also sometimes will go as high as 5000 depending on the work load on the engine. For example if im going down a hill i can get the engine to rev higher because it doesnt require any power
