Most on eBay aren't even actual cats, but rather resonated test pipes (especially at that price).

Cats are not as restrictive as some people think, I got a 94 DX cat on my 2000 B16A swap, and I smogged it at the shop and passed with a good margin, car also ran a best time of 15.1 @ 94.2mph with I/H/E and the cat.

I have got one from Dave last year and now its done. I blame the car because I think it was running rich. I bought a new O2 sensor and installed it and since then the cat is begining to rattle. I dont want to spend another 190 or so dollars for the same cat. Wanted to see if I can get it for less and with an place to put the o2. I had a carsound from SMSP that lasted me for 3 years then I had to take it off to get smogged. After putting it back on that cat was no good. Shouldn't have shaken it and bangged it on the ground.

Any ways any one else know??

Cats make your car not sound like crap
Also, if you cat "rattles", it may be its heatshield rusting away from the inside, to out.

I never said I didnt want a cat. I need one to get smog tested. If the heat sheild is rutting away doesnt that mean I need to replace it?? So now thats full circle to my original question.

The heatshield is just on the outside, it reduces heat that the cat housing emits during operation. Its easily removed by 4 (or so, depending on cat) small bolts, which are usually rusted beyond recognition.

Random Technology bolt in high flow is the way to go. A magazine did a test once on an EM1 and a test pipe gained 11 whp while the RT cat came in at a 9 whp gain. You can't beat that for keeping a working cat and gaining almost as much as no cat. I love mine
