Default Leaky Valve Cover! Tried Everything

Ok im so pissed, I have a 94 sol sohc and i got a new valve cover and put it on. Ever since then its been all down hill, After I put the cover on I drove it around and thinkin it was fine and went inside. Came outside about 30 minutes later and there ****** oil on my driveway. So i take the valve cover off and then go to walmart and get some gasket sealant ****. Well that didnt work. So I went to autozone and got a new gasket. Cleaned the surface that gasket bonds to and bolt on the valve cover again and torqued to 7 foot pounds. Drove it around and got out and it leakin oil again. So i repeated steps 1 and 2 and except this time with the new gasket i used the sealant and it still has a slow leak. I dont know why the this peice of **** keeps leaking but im frusterated, sorry for length of post, somebody help me!

Did you take you time with it, or was it a slap and go kind of thing? You need to take time with gaskets and make sure they line up perfect. If you dont, they will leak.

Your torque wrench may not be accurate at such a small torque spec. I'd recommend torquing it to 10ft lbs and then physically check to see if that feels "snug" to you...

You might have damaged the valve cover part where the gasket seals to and if there are any deep scratches or anything, it doesn't matter how good the new gasket is on there.

are you *sure* its coming from the valve cover? did you check your oil pan gasket? if you see it on the driveway it might be coming from there and not the valve cover.

you need to use that gasket goop the correct way, im willing to bet you rushed putting it on and didnt make a uniform bead all the way through. IT really is easier to slow down and take youre time, now you have a problem that you have to go back and redo

make sure gasket is right size, put sealant on corners of gasket where the loops are, and make sure nothing is getting between gasket and head such as wire

I took my time all four times and When i put the sealant on i put it on the cam humps just like it said in another thread and the peice of **** still leaked, and im positive that its comin from the valve cover because whenever i put iton you could see the fresh valve cover gasket and then i started it and it was fine, so i hopped in and drove it up the street and back and popped the hood and oil was coming from the valve cover and im like f*ck what the hell is goin on. I even cleaned the lip that the gasket seals to and i took my time. It still didnt seal. I dont know what to do to make this peice of **** seal? And oh yea the gasket is the right size i got it from autozone and its the right one. I took my time on putting the sealant on..Some More Help Please!

Oh yea i already snapped off one of those damn bolts and went to the junk yard and got another one and put it on.
Doubt it matters but its leakin from the front side of the valve cover. The backside has sealed every time its just the front side.

sounds like your gromments are bad. if it's bad then it won't have enough pressure to seal the valve cover. had the same problem and once i replace that it was fixed. also, where did you apply the sealant? and there is also a troque sequence that you're suppose to do. goodluck

I agree. You'll need new rubber grommets. Get thyself to honda for those. I have the same issue on my car. These rubber parts get hard and brittle and leak after a while.

Also, you need to let the car sit for about an hour or more to let the RTV sealant around the cam humps to seat properly.
