Mechanical Autometer possible run in my civic?
Hello to everyone in Honda Tech, This is Paul from Malaysia wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2012.
Well another new year is coming... still single
So question.... Possible a Mechanical Tachometer run in a modern 1992 Civic? Well is could be a silly question before year 2012. But man I love that old Autometer tachometer #5711 that I saw on Ebay. It is about 3 3/4 inches diameter with 11k dial in it. I just love it. I know there are newer electrical tachometer with 4 wires and is totally compatible with my Civic from Autometer. But I just love the one I loved. So I check online that old Mechanical tachometer need to be run only with the sender(#605). This old Obsolete Model #5711 comes with the sender part number 605 and the cable Twin Black = (looks like a lamp cord) with another red wire which i believe is for the ignition(key on power supply) Also drive tip which i also believe for placing in the distributor( GM motor?)
So Any possible way to run this tachometer without the sender? or just plug these 3 cable in my Civic? Any suggest? I an electrical idiot... not pay enough attention once in school

it looks like a lamp cord wire... Both in twin black

What Are These Colored Wires On My Tach For?
• Red = key on power supply
• Black = common chassis ground
• White = dash lighting power
• Yellow = used only on Internal Coil Magneto tachometers as the signal wire
• Green = tachometer signal for standard or electronic ignitions
• Twin Black = (looks like a lamp cord) is used on External Coil Magneto tachometers that use an inductive pick up (#5210)
• Gray = for tachometers that use a Hi/Lo shift light. When grounded, Lo shift light point is active. When ungrounded, Hi shift light point is active.
• Blue = used on Playback tachometers to start recording (see playback tachometer instructions)

If that sender is absolutely necessary for it to run and it has to plug into a distributor then I would say it's incompatible. Someone with more electrical experience might have an idea to make it work.

I thought it would possible ignore the sender just figure that twin black cable plug to my civic electronic ignition terminal. It seems like a risk.... hmmm
