Knocking or valves tapping?
i just putted in a new d16z6 because my other one sounded really bad. now my new motor sounds the same. i don't know if my valves are tapping or is the motor knocking. my friend told me that my block is bad and that its knocking. it makes a noise like the valves are tapping but when you rev up the motor, the sound gets louder like something is hitting really hard. my question is how can you tell when your motor is knocking or when the valves are tapping.

Have you adjusted the valves? Timing belts can make some strange noises too. Piston wrist pin looseness is somewhat common too. If the noise isn't really loud, live with it. Try switching to stright 30w oil and see if that cures some of the noise. Check oil pressure with a known good mechanical guage. If you have any questions, send them to jfastman@yahoo.com

I agree do teh Valve adjustment and see what you get. I did that on mine and it worked great. No tapping of valves and all I could hear was the injector pulse.

when it sounds like little marbles in a can. valve ticking sounds way different from a knocking engine.

. try the valve lash adjustment and some slightly thicker oil, if that doesnt help, it might be bottom end related
