Knock sensor? Need to pass NJ inspection GSR swap in 98 Ex!!!!
I have a 98 Ex with a GSR swap and I live in NJ and need to know what I need to be done in order to pass inspection. The person that did my swap told me he didn't hook up the Knock sensor?

P28 ECU
Obd2- obd1 conversion harness
stock cat/o2 sensors
stock intake/exhaust manifolds

Is the motor OBDII and converted to OBDI?
What youre gonna have to do is find a OBDII GSR ECU (P72) and run that for inspection. And wire in the knock sensor to your ECU.

Because, When youre running a convesion harness from OBDII to OBDI you can no longer use the scan port under the steering wheel.
Which is what has to be done in NJ.
He didnt hook up a knock sensor because the P28 doesnt look for one.
Or find a private facility to look the other way.

yep, Thats pretty much it. Just make sure you arent throwing any check engine light for inspection.

You Get a Connector, I think its the same connector as the VTEC pressure switch. Then run a wire from the Connector to the ECU PIN.
Here is a diagram.

The Knock sensor is located on the back of the block. Under the intake manifold, Its blue.
Its also easy to break so be careful. Its above your oil filter to the left.
Its fairly easy, I Pin'd out and wired my Knock sensor, VTEC pressure switch and Solenoid in about 30 minutes.
The hardest part is gettin the wire through the firewall.
You can find PIns for the ECU at the junkyard. Or Ive used an old Headunit radio harness Pin before.

so besides the plugs being different,
obd1 & 2 dist, alt, injectors are interchangable?
and you can change obd ecu's without changing anything else, right?

No on all counts. If the engine was hooked up for OBD1 then you need to do work to get it to OBD2, since an OBD2 ECU is going to be looking for a lot more sensor readings than an OBD1 ECU.
If the person installing your engine went with the EX engine harness to begin with, it's as easy as finding the clip and plugging it in, since the EX harness has everything you need already.
You'd want a 99 USDM P72 because 2000-2001 Integras have an immobilizer built into it that will disallow starting the car. JDM P72s are OBD1 emissions equivalent and do not interface with the scan tool. That's a fail right there.
If you run into problems, a private facility may be the best bet.

if i have all sensors wired for obd2 and i just want to run obd1 for tuning, that wouldnt cause any problem right? all the extra sensors would just be looked past and the motor would run the same, right?

In theory, yes, but nothing will be as easy as swapping ECUs to go from OBD1 to OBD2 or vice versa. Pin outs are different, not only on the ECU harness, but on things such as the distributor. It's not a trivial swap.

OBD2 car with an OBD1 computer running it? Theres your problem. You wont pass unless your running this motor with an OBD2 p72, catalytic converter and no check engine lights.
Your other option is to dish out a few hundred dollars and pay for a state sticker, but even there you must be careful, NJ police all over are cracking down on illegal possesion of inspection stickers, i can testify to that first hand. This is due to the fact that they are bored and have nothing better to do.
