knock, chatter, or rattle?
I have recently noticed a rattle-knocking noise coming from my d civic. After putting it on my hoist I have pinned it down to the bell housing, I think. The noise only happens when when holding rev's at about 2500-4000 and/or during acceleration. It seems to happen whether the clutch is depressed or not, but that seems to be the direction my instincts are taking me. I dropped the tranny and pulled the clutch to look for obvious clutch or bearing problems and not sure if I have found the problem. The clutch disc has two springs and 4 rollers (?). All 6 pieces seem to have a little bit of play/movement, from what I know that isn't normal but not sure if that would cause my problem. The clutch plate isn't in the best of shape so I plan on replacing it, but before I put everything back together to find out if that's the solution, I am seeking advice. The flywheel seems to be snug but not sure how far to pursue checking crank bearings and so forth. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
