Default Keyless entry

I have a 96' civic ex and I was wondering if it came with keyless entry. If it did, what controller do I need? Thanks!

If it came with factory keyless entry, pull the radio out and you will see two wiring plugs. If it is just one it doesn't have keyless entry.

It does have 2 plugs... What do I need to do to get it working again?

Get your remote, hold the valet button between FM/CD buttonsfor 5 seconds. you should hear the locks unlock. Then while holding the valet button within 10sec hit one of the transmitter buttons and they will activate. After they have been programed turn the ign switch off and hit one of the buttons 6 times to make them start to work.
you might find a transmitter on ebay or will need to go to the dealer.

You have to retain the factory stereo for the OEM system to work. If you have an aftermarket radio, chances are they didn't install it properly. Your keyless wont work and your dome light wont come on when a door is opened. The proper way is to take apart the factory radio so that it fits behind the new radio. Then install a Y adapter harness so that both stereo's are powered up. Metra and other companies make these stereo Y adapter harnesses.

Quite frankly the factory keyless module sucks and should be replaced with an alarm that has a keyless option. Then you can dump the factory stereo. When you install an aftermarket stereo, two wires in the stereo harness need to be cut and wired together. Any competent install shop should know how to do this.

This info applies only to 96-98 Civics with factory keyless.

Anyone know if there's a way to get the dome light to turn on with an aftermarket headunit other than getting the OEM system?

Does it matter what remote I get? Is there a certain model that I need? Also, I found a post on this last night and is there a module that I need that hooks to the radio?
