Default Just installed AEM intake...

Just installed an AEM short-ram intake system and I wanted to know if it's a bit normal for a whistling sound to occur when the car is idle or at low rpm's and I can't really hear the intake until about 2900 to 3200 rpm.

I plan on putting some pic's up tomorrow sometime also if anyone could look at them and let me know if there's anything I did wrong when installing it. ***Edit-(Not sure if the hoses are on correctly)***

And yes, I'm a little new to cars, but I'm learning each day.

my intake doesn make that noise, but its aem cia that was cut to into a short ram. With some space shuttle cone looking filter, maybe that stops the whistle idk. you should hear a airaid intake on a dodge ram, very frustrating haha

From my experiences, it seems some cars do it, some don't. It's fairly normal though. I wouldn't be concerned if it does or does not whistle.

I've had an AEM CAI and SRI on my 6G EX and never heard a whistle. There was a SRI on the 6G CX we have here, and it whistled all day long.

We've since both gone back to stock and not only is the whistle gone, but the engine bay doesn't look funny and empty anymore.

short rams can hurt performance too, it was proven somewhere that either a k&n drop in filter or cia would be the best way to go

i would go for a CAI but im conserned about hydro lock. agreed that it doesnt rain much in cali. but when it does, where i live, the stop sign places to flood. i know i know "get a bypass" yes i know. but i dont know. i just seems like it wont help. even though i know it would

I've had both and was not impressed.

The CAI didn't help anything. Okay, so it made the passenger headlight easier to change. That's about it. It also made the car louder, but I'll touch on that again in a second.

I began wanting a stock airbox, but hadn't really taken steps to find one. That's okay though. I was given a gentle push, to help me make up my mind and do it.

My car was stolen and the CAI went with the thieves. I tried to get my original airbox, but parents were unwilling to send it over here, saying $32 was too much for shipping.

I couldn't find a stock airbox, so I had to buy a SRI so I could drive my car. The SRI showed a noticeable drop in low end power.

I finally found a local guy selling a stock airbox. It cost me about $50.

The airbox is just as loud as the CAI is though. I haven't gotten the lower resonator piece, so it's still loud.

If you want an intake just for the noise, removing the resonator (at least on EX models) will result in the same noise.

If you remove it and keep it intact, contact me. I'm still looking for one.

Do you have and dyno info on this? Maybe on a stock motor this might lose power but on a "tuned" motor on the dyno we have found that the short ram was the way to go. We tried everything (bored with unlimited dyno runs) ie. cold with extensions that could never be ran with your hood closed(once again bored), stock air box, but the best combo was the short ram with velocity stack no filter(on the street with filter was only .5 to 1.5hp less)

Fact of the matter is, most of the people on this website and most people with intakes have stock engines.

And yes, get back at me through PMs about that resonator. Thanks.

I have done dyno's with this and my findings do not support yours. Why was pipe length added to a cai? that typically hurts it's peformance. Did you try adding pipe length to the short ram to see what power could be made? They will usually make more power that way. Did you dyno the cai against the short ram with no modifications to either? What brand of intakes were being used?

Never had a whistle on a SRI. Put the stock box back in and love it.
