Just bought an eg with b18c1 swap.....its slow???
i just purchased a 92 civic si with a b18c1 swap. car is stock minus catback and shortram, stage 2 clutch and dss axles, with skunk 2 coilovers. i thought these things were faster..... it DOES throw a cel code every now and then but goes right off when i start the car and usually doesnt come back till i get on it. i think its running super rich because there is black smoke coming out my exhaust when i get on it as well. this thing feels like it has NO TOP END whatsoever, but feels ok down low. i can hear the exhaust change pitch around 5k, so i am assuming its hitting vtec, correct? im just wondering if running rich could be the cause of it feeling so damn slow, and also if maybe the cel is the o2 sensor causing it to run rich? at the same time im wondering if i got a good deal on the car, its got a fairly new toyota solara white pearl paint job, and i paid 4k for it. shell looks great inside and out, motor and tranny are great, just this one problem. thanks

Psh, that doesn't make any sense syndacate, why would he want to do that?
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Yeah, I think you're engines ECU has started up it's limp mode either because it's got too many errors with sensors or it's got a bigger problem.

Things you can try...
-any blue~ish white smoke? if so, do a compression test
-either go to a 1/4mile track or go on a dyno...(or use wideband O2) to see the condition of the engine.
-check the code and get it fixed... there's a reason why the cel comes on.
-get it tuned if not using the right ECU(chipped ECU) for the motor.
-do a tune-up
...and yes, running too rich makes the car go slow..

Like others have said check the smoke coming from the exhaust if its blue its burning oil and if its white and smelling like a rotten egg(catalyst converter) or a sweet smell then its burning coolant. Do the compression tests and paper clip the ecu cord to check what error codes the ecu is giving you. Long blinks mean 1 long = 10 and then 20 and so on. Short blinks are single digits. Make sure everything is connected and there are no vacume leaks. If it has a lot of miles on it already it might be burning oil, not sure yet. It could be that your just running super rich or lean causing bad performance. Basically just do a tuneup and everything

Re: (Syndacate)
i have nothing to check the cel with at the moment, i plan on getting it checked asap, but i thought until then maybe asking thousands of honda users for any input or advice.
, the smoke is def. from running rich, but ill do a compression check anyway asap. ive never heard of this paper clip thing, is there a link on more descriptive details on how to do it?
