Default jdm engines vs. usdm engines

This might have been covered before but I can't seem to find it through any of my keywords...

How do JDM motors have a higher horsepower rating than USDM motors? Is it just the way its measured, or are the internals different? Any ideas? Thanks.

its the same thing on most of the general engine, some "Hi-Output" engines like R's and stuff have better cams exhaust systems etc.. as for internals on USDM and quality its basically the same and made in same factory that the JDM stuff was made, like i said there is some diff. in R's and Type-blah's but in general no big difference in how long they last...but i do have to make an exception for 1st gen b16's becasue they can take beatings...

So you're saying if I put a D15B exhaust manifold on my D15B7, I'll get a few more horses? But if I were to put the same manifold on a z6 head mated to my b7 engine, would I lose some?

Some of the differences are valves, retainers, pistons, cams, headers size. Believe or not we took apart 3 different b16a's and found different types of retainers in them from generation to generations. Either they were modified already or someone put them in already but it's odd to find them like that especially when you take apart 3 motors at the same time finding out they all have slightly different parts.

JDM motors have larger vtec solenoid. I don't know if that helps or not. JDM OBDII motors still have only 1 02 sensor. There are a few other different things also. For instance this kid thought I was ripping him off cause I sold him my jdm b16a and there was no wire coming out of the vtec solenoid bracket and he came back to me yelling and threatening to sue me. I showed him my JDM b18c and it didn't have it either. Although the US spec b16a2 has that wire. That shut him up.

I wish people would do research about what their buying cause alot of them seemed to expect the JDM motors to be exactly like the USDM ones...

less smog laws = less exhaust restrictions = more power... basically we get less powerful cars b/c we're trying to protect the environment... nevermind the huge *** SUV's driving around, we'll rob a 1.6l L4 engine of 10 hp... LoL
