Yeah, but I'm sure a P28 would work just fine...may only have regular VTEC and not utilize VTEC-E, but it should run fine.

p28 timing is different than p08 timing.

I'd just get a chipped ecu with a p08 map

p08=proper d15b ecu

p28=more convenient ecu to find for swappers, utilizes the four wire o2 sensor, works just as well for the one-stage vtec, chippable anyway so why not.

Hrm, didn't know that...it works fine though.

Though yeah, I suppose you're right, a chipped OBD-I ECU with a P08 basemap is your best bet for efficiency...

hey guys, im running a p28 on my D15b vtec/b7 mini me, the vtec does not work at all,i have no CEL's, the swap actually made my car a lot slower, i think i will have my po6 chipped to po8 and see if that works.

The p06 isn't even made to recognize, much less look for VTEC. It's not running properly because you now have the wrong brain for your new engine.

he said 'chipped to p08' which is what I did to my p05 and it works like a champ. I also picked up a JDM P08 for just-in-case issues

Eh, both.

The D15Z1 utilizes VTEC-E - which (I think) uses half the valves under ~2500 RPM or something to that effect to save fuel like **** - the "E" stands for economical.

The D16Z6 uses VTEC, which locks the rockers so higher profile cam lobes can give you a longer lift duration in the higher RPM band.

The JDM D15B utilizes both systems, it's called "3 stage VTEC" - don't ask me why it's "3" stage instead of "2" stage, I guess it's because it's VTEC-E - normal - VTEC --- a regular VTEC engine is "2 stage" I guess is how it goes - but whatever...point is:
- It's called "3 stage VTEC"
- It utilizes both VTEC-E and VTEC

actually no. the Z1 and Z6 are correct but the D15B can be one of four different versions that I know of. (there may be more)
or is that what you were trying to say? I'm not entirely awake yet today.

D15B nonVTEC - basically the same as our D15B7 or D15B8 I don't remember which.
D15B VTEC - basically the same as our D16Z6 but 1.5L
D15B VTEC-E - basically the same as out D15Z1
D15B three stage VTEC - OBD2 only variant, combination of Z1 and Z6 functionality. It's called three stage because the engine has three different modes, solinoids of, one solinoid on, both solinoids on.
