You will want a chipped P28 ecu or P28 equivalent ecu that has vtec functions. Most people can provide you with a basemap that will run your car, but it is always highly recommended to get your car tuned.

There is no substitute for tuning...every car/setup has something that will run slightly different.

+2

You can have your stock p28 ecu chipped/socketed with a basemap.
You should make sure you have the proper sized map sensor, injectors & fuel pump for your setup before you get your car tuned

slightly off topic but if I have a p75 ecu for a 97 b18b do I have to use a chipped p75 or can I use a chipped p28 ecu as an option as well?

You can use the P28 on a non-vtec motor if you disable all the vtec parameters, so the ecu doesn't look for it.
