Intake experts' input needed:
Hey all,
I've been thinking about sourcing a y8 intake manifold and SRI to swap with the stock y7 setup. The car is a '99 LX 5-spd, so I want the IM to be for an auto, right?
Right now I have a K&N drop-in for the stock box and a catback exhaust. I'm not going to build-up or swap motors in the future- just looking for some extra flow. Plus I just like working on and learning about my car. I *have* noticed some gains with what I have done so far.
I want to know if people here would recommend doing the IM swap to use, say the y8 AEM SRI. I know I don't need to spend $90 on an intake, but I like the build quality and filter of AEM. I plan to keep the stock header w/manifold cat.
My current setup is barely louder than stock - 2" pipe, no resonator, MagnaFlow muffler - and I'd like to keep it that way, but I do love that throaty intake sound. Should I just get a SRI for the y7 manifold, or is it worth the IM swap, then add the intake?

Yes, get any 96-00 Intake manifold from any EX automatic, because it uses the 3-wire IACv, which would make it a direct swap onto your motor.
As for intakes, theres nothing wrong with a stockbox and an expensive (quality)drop in filter (ex: K&N, Spoon, ect) . Such a setup is the best bang for your buck IMHO.
