Installing AC in non-AC car?
Hey guys,
I want to install AC in my non-AC equipped 1994 Civic DX hatch. I have the compressor and the temperature control unit for the dash already... I know I need a condensor and dryer... but what else do I need? Anywhere that has a full chart of the AC system? I know I'll need some hoses and piping... but not sure where to find out what parts I'll need exactly.
Thanks in advance.

I found a "New Old Stock" AC compressor for the car too... never been installed, brand new genuine Honda part.
I've got a friend with the complete system minus the compressor from an Integra... is it possible that I can use my compressor and most of those parts? Anyone?

This will be my next project after the turbo gets up and running. I've got the manifold, turbo unit, and most of the piping on the car. I'll be dropping the oil pan to drill the return and wiring it up tomorrow... it's just a bolt-on Greddy kit, but should do what I want for a while.

Yeah adding AC would be a PITA. I have a 95 that doesn't have AC and there's some benefits, but I couldn't imagine going through the trouble to add it. I would personally just look out for any 88+ honda out there for sale with A/C and just drive that on your hot days. Or get a cheap motorcycle.

It's amazing that people can put a Type R engine in a car, turbo it, and all the suspension crap....but a simple air conditioner whoops their ***.
My DX did not have a/c when I got it, but, it does now. ALL the eg's are prewired for it. Go to a junkyard and pull everything but the drier. Try and get a new/newer compressor if you can.
The AC wiring is a simple grey plug next to the pass. headight. Grab all the relays and wiring and you're good to go.

Hmmm I didn't know they were prewired. Do you need to replace the HVAC control in the dash or can you just pop off the block-off plate? Not that I'm going to do it. I like having an EX w/o AC. Keeps the gas mileage up around 42 on the highway.

I'm pretty sure you need to replace the control unit. I purchased one with a working A/C button for my car on e-bay.
As for reasons for putting A/C on a car. This is to be a demo vehicle for Sundown Audio. It kind of sucks to do a listening session in a car in the summer with no A/C installed Otherwise I probably would not have worried about it, my first two cars had no A/C and it really wasn't that bad.

Alrighty... I'll pick up a new drier ASAP. I bought a "new old stock" AC compressor in original Honda boxes from a dealership Thanks for the advice.

And they no longer sell it.
I popped off the "block off" button on mine, got a tab from the dealer and went from there. ALL the cars are prewired. Simple as that.
The hardest thing to do was the dash work, and that was a breeze.
Remove the glove box and there is a "spacer" there for the cars without ac. That pops out and you insert the new/used one with the AC pipes that go into the engine bay.
Once you get the ac piece in your hand, it's VERY self explanatory.
