I dont think it will run in limp mode but you will not have knock protection or course and any excessive pinging will only be a bad thing, you will pollute the air more and yes waste gas and beat up your rod bearings and worse case blow a hole in your piston. They are expensive I believe but usually last forever so if you can get a used one, it should be ok. Best results, it should have a torque value in the manual so check on that too.

If its broken your car will run like crap, you will have vtec still because my friends car is throwing a code 23 for the knock sensor and vtec is still engaging...
But youll know when its in limp mode because your car will be dumping fuel like someones spraying your car car with a hose full of gas

I know that Honda on certain years as an emissions warranty on their civics. I had my knock sensor go out and honda replaced it for free. As well with a free tune up, and new seatbelts! Best day at a dealership! Your car does go into limp mode, like others have stated, dumping fuel because Code 23 should just be the knock sensor is bad, there is another thats actually used for knocking, and pinging. Call honda or do some reading and see if that warranty applies to you!

at high rpm the pistons will ping cause the knock sensor isnt reading and telling the ecu to retard the timing...

i use a program called mitchell on demand, and that is how the knock sensor is tested. i currently have an issue as well becuase i am running the jdm f22b with p14 ecu. and im not saying its not working 100% but the loads are different.

I also have OD5, testing and actually working is two different scenarios, it works all the time to retard timing when there is a knock, if it is working properly. Have you seen the test with the engine not running, hook the KS wire to the scope and tap on the engine block with a hammer and watch the signal on the scope, a KS generates its own voltage.

yeah, your right Duane, i should've picked my words more wiser. im just having alot of issues with the ks right now. i know the part where is creates its own voltage but have you heard of the piezo buzzer setup that is an alternate for the ks ?

I have not, does it buzz to say you have a knock, LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL, I would not think that it is telling you that the ECU is actually retarding the timing, or is it put in line with the KS going to the ECU, I assume its a stand alone item???
EDIT: which M.O.D. do you have please.
