idle problem, big problem
i don't know what is wrong, i started my car this morning in neutral and the idle was at 1k, and when i push the clutch in it droped to about 200 250, when i sit at a light the rpms flux. from 700ish and drops to 0 and bounces back up and the car shakes and the battery light comes on when it drops to zero as if it stalled and it pulls itself back out, and it flux. four or five times and it just finally dies.
help me, i dont know what to do
i just need this piece of s**t to work a little bit longer so i can get a z6 swap or a ls swap i just can't find anything close enough for the right price. if anyone has a z6 tranny that would be good enough for me, cuz i have a dx i can stick it on.

Re: idle problem, big problem (no-tec)
you might have an air leak somewhere... get it checked with a mechanic. mine did that, it turned out to be the FIAV which cost me around $100 but it was worth it. I hated going to stop lights and people next to me would think i'm reving my engine up at them.

Re: idle problem, big problem (no-tec)
I have the same problem, but I'm lazy. It is the idle air control valve most likely. IT is located on the back of the manifold, to the right of the throttle body. It has big round plug and 2 hoses connected to it. IF you want to check for a vaccum leak pour some water on the top of the manifold, where the tb meets the manifold and where the manifold meets the head. IF any of it bubbles or you can see it being sucked in you need a new gasket. I bet it is the IACV.

I had a problem like that and I took it to Honda and it turns out when I changed my oil I disconnected a vacum line and that is what caused the rpm jumps and sputtering.

Re: idle problem, big problem (clintwsi)
yea, I have seen that too, they knock off the line to the PCV valve, but the fluctuation is not like what he is describing. I would check those connections before pouring water on the motor. That would be a bad line to get water in, as it is for CRANKCASE ventelation.
