Default idle messed up and sputtering need help

hello to all,

I've used this forum in the past at it has been very helpful. I'm comming to all the experts for a little more help. I have a 93 civic ex with 180k, put a rebuilt head on it in feb 05 after the water pump locked up and broke the belt--all went well and she runs like new. My question is as of lately my rpm's have been jumping from around 800 to 1500k when i'm stopped at a light like i'm reving my engine up. It does this very quickly 800 up to 1500 then drops to 800 then back up to 1500 ect. like i'm reving the engine like i want to race or something get the picture--any ideas?

Also I've been having another problem for years even before the head swap--My car sputters under load at low rpm's until I get past lets say 2000 or so rpm's. Usually when staring out from a light or stop sign I need to keep the rpm's up inorder not to have her sputter which is not necessary. when i put new plugs in her she is fine and will pull up with power in 4th or 5th gear floored with no sputtering--but that usually only lasts for about 1000 miles or so--whenever i pull the plugs they always looks good--I have never changed the wires--could that be the problem--I did put a new dist. in a few years back when i started to have the bearing go bad

i'm more concerned with the reving idle problem

please help me out!

thanks,

joe

I just experinced the same thing with my EK and I found that my throttle position sensor was faulty. Test the TPS for a voltage drop either with a scanner or with a volt meter
