vacuum leak. check your tb gasket and your map sensor o ring seal.

tps probably needs calibration

This wouldn't happen to be a Skunk2 TB, would it?

"tps probably needs calibration"

how does one complete this?

Check the IAC. Mine was jumping up and down and I took it out and cleaned it now it's fine.

I have a problem like this too, but it doesn't idle as high as 2K. Usually it bounces up and down between 700/800 and 1200/1300 somewhere in that range. I have a JDM B16 swap and I've been told the idle air sensor is the culprit. Don't know if it's true or not, but it is annoying as hell.

to change your TB you have to change your TPS sensor over.

if you didnt calibrate it when you changed it over then its most likely out of spec

its to early for me to search it for you , but they are everyhwere, just search for "calibrate tps"

If the TPS needed to messed with, it would simply throw a CEL and keep an idle of continual 3K RPM.

You most likely have mis matched some vacuum lines

not necessarily.

my tps was way off. 1.4v closed, and 5.somehting open. only threw a CEL if i held it at WOT for more than 5 seconds.

if i never went WOT it never threw a cel. so it could still be the tps. and i would almost guarantee it since he probably just bolted the tps on there without calibrating it

Nothings wrong with it, per se, since Skunk2 makes some great products. BUT, I just got through trying to figure out why my idle was so high and why it would occasionally surge up and down between 1000-1800 (with a Skunk2 TB). It turns out that air was leaking past the throttle plate on the inside of the throttle body even when the plate was closed. It resembled someone partially opening the throttle up since it was always idling around 1500 when it wasn't surging.

I would say make sure that everything put back in (since you said it was "worked on") fits snugly and there is no vacuum leak from within. I tried cleaning my IACV with no luck and checked the throttle pull, but everything else was ok.

BTW, since it was brought up in the thread... Calibrating the TPS is easy. I assume that since you received this TB from somebody else, the TPS screws are accessible and you can loosen them.

1. So loosen them just enough that you can wiggle the TPS around a little.
2. Hook up a digital multimeter to ground and one to the middle lead of the 3 pin clip (middle = signal lead... the outer two are 5v and ground).
3. Adjust the TPS so that the multimeter is reading 0.45-0.50 volts (I do 0.48).
4. Tighten down the two screws; the voltage reading on 0% throttle should still be whatever you just set it to. Make sure the TPS didn't move when you tightened it down.
5. Slowly open the throttle. You should see the voltage reading move linearly from ~0.5 volts to ~4.5 volts at WOT. There should be no flat spots in the reading. If there are flat spots or WOT is not between 4.3-4.5 volts, replace the sensor and then repeat from step 1.
