I was hoping you could clear something up...

Is the ignition control module also referred to the "ignitor"?

I am having issues with my tach...and some threads say to check the connection to the ICM and looking at the diagrams, this looks like the ignitor to me..

Yes - igniter unit and ignition control module (ICM) are different names for basically the same distributor part. The first term is used in the service manual of 88-92 Civics whereas the latter is used in the service manual of 96-00 Civics.

I have a 98 EX...

Can I test the tach output at the blue wire connector on the driver side fender...next to the master brake clinder? If so how??? beside getting a different tach..maybe using a DVM??

The tach comes and goes..today it was at 2K and slowly increased all the way...until I turned off the key and back on..then it reset to 0 and stayed there..

Tomorrow my plan was to take the cap off and inspect the wires going to the ICM...just wanted to ensure I was looking at the right part inside the dizzy...

Test the blue wire for a short and open using a multimeter. If the wire is fine, then hook up a tach or a multimeter with a tach feature to the tach plug under the hood. If you get a solid tach reading from the connector, then the tach or the cluster is likely bad.

I checked and don't have a short or open from the blue wire on the ICM to the test plug. So my question is...

Is it possible the ICM isn't sending out the correct tach signal? I know the next option is to connect a spare tach to the test plug...just trying to save myself from buying a tach.
