Default iacv help

I really need some help before I burn this car. U searched but came up with nothing.

My iacv seems like it isn't doing anything at all. Ive tried troubleshooting it but the car runs the same with it unplugged or plugged up. My idle stays around like 400 no matter what

Its 1998 civic hatch with a b16a2 what color wires should be going to the iacv cause that might be the problem. Thanks for the help.

i think the map sensor is the same plug and amount of wires. you could try switching them and see if thats the problem. do you have any CEL's? does the rpm seem to surge? have you tried adjusting the throtle cable to get it at the right rpm at idle?

Yea a cel for iacv circuit fault and for an evap system leak

The plug is the same as the one for the power steering pressure switch are the same. When I change them nothing happens.

What engine harness are you using? you need to convert from a 3 wire to 2 wire IACV plug when swapping a B series in an a 6th gen hatch, unless you used a 96 - '98 EX 5 speed engine harness.

I bougt the car and it was already swapped so I don't know which harness they used. If they used the wrong harness they already converted to a 2 wire plug

I also have a big vacuum leak from the cruise control nipple but if I cap it off the car will just die. I'm really confused.

Check your wiring. These diagrams should help.

And fix your vacuum leak. The IACV itself may also be bad.

sounds to me like that haness is either wrong or its not plugged in to the right sensors...also sounds like the vacuum lines are in the wrong places...unless you have access to a honda manual or the honda interactive network I would go buy a helmes manual and pull everything off and start over....but deff figure out which engine harness your using

the harness may be wrong that i dont know. as for the vacuum lines they are right whoever had it before me took of the cruise cause thats the only vacuum line that is not used. it would have just went to the vacuum bubble for the cruise.

did 96-98 civics use a knock sensor because the on in the car is wired in seperatly??

They could be any number of different colors depending on what the plug was taken from. There are at least half a dozen of those round 2 wire plugs in most honda engine bays, so who knows what that one was originally used for. D16Y7s did not IIRC have a knock sensor, the D16Y8, found in the EXs did though. If its wired right at both ends check for continutity between the 2 ends to see of there is a break in the wire somewhere.

Nothing has been spliced or removed so I'm pretty sure the harness is still in factory condition. I turned up the idle at the idle screw and got the vacuum leak fixed but still have no iacv.

The wires on the iacv are black with a silver dot. The only other plug it could be is black and the other wire is green.

Still any help is greatly appreciated

according to hondas ETM if its a 2 wire IAC it should be yel/black and a blk/blu wire going it to the plug...if it were a 3 wire plug it would be yel/blk blk/blu and an orange wire...the black and green wire plug according to the honda ETM is for your power steering pressure switch

did you try using a different ecu? a faulty ecu could be the case.

The only thing is it was 3 wire plug converted to 2 wire (most likely, unless whoever did the swap used a different harness) so the connector could have originally been for a number of other things and obviously wouldn't neccessarily match the wiring diagram.
