I've been searching all over the place and found that you could not remove the alternator from the top on these engines without removing the MC. I have a Del Sol VTEC (B16A3) and it did!!

The alternator is not the Mitsubishi kind. It came out the top WITHOUT removing the MC, only removing the upper bracket. Just move the AC line out of the way by taking it out of the brackets, the Throttle cable, the Cruise Control cable, their brackets (10mm bolts) and some harness thats in the way. Then, it'll come right out, although it is a tight fit.

Im just posting this so it goes into the archives and is accessible for future use, as the wheels don't need removing, neither do the axles, the oil filter or anything else than the top alternator bracket.

Impossible is nothing!

Thanks for the info, I have a 93 del sol and wasn't sure which direction the alternator should be removed from. Top, bottom, or wheel well. Thanks again.

I noted that the front pulley must be towards the front of car or the alt housing will hit the fuel injection rail. I also took off the power steering hose up front and pulled it to the side.
