Default I need some good advice please

I have been researching motor set-ups a lot recently and I just don't know what I should do. I have a bone stock 96 dx hatchback. What I would like to achieve is a quarter mile time in the low to mid 14's and have the car be reliable enough to drive daily. In your opinion, what route should I take to obtain this goal? Turbo the d16, swap in a b16, build up the d16, Nos, Supercharge it? I know that any of these could get me to my goal, but which would be the best as far as reliability is concerned? Also, I'm not a millionaire, so this will be a work in progress for some time. I just want to have fun with my car. If you can give me some advice, I will really appreciate it. I have found this to be the most informative Honda site on the net, and I've been to a lot of them! Thanks guys!

Well, reliability and Nos don't go too well together unless your engine is built up for it. The most reliable would of course be the b16 and building that up. Building a d-series is also reliable even with a turbo assuming you have the internals built up and an upgraded fuel system with injectors. But in the long run, a non-turbo, well built b16 will be the most reliable. Since you said you have time, you might want to build up that d-series though

How much $$$ are you willing to spend to enter the game? Are you going to install it yourself?

Have you thought about a GS-R motor? (B18C1)

I will probably 'enter the game' with about $2k and will be doing all of my own work. I have a friend experienced with swaps, etc that will be helping me.

with 2k you can either buy a b16 and have it installed since you have a hookup or....you can get a greddy turbo kit for your d-seires for about 1200 brand new and spend the rest on vafc, and other goodies that will accomodate your turbo.

It is a hard call. I have heard many people in here with a b16 bitch about not saving more to go to a gsr. There are fast b16s out there but we are talking stock. At first it will feel fast but sooner or later you might start feeling the need for more torque and HP.

Maybe you can find another grand?

the b16 will give you a good base and something to build on over tie lik u mentioned. and like the the other guy said a gsr motor is a bit more but a way better base to start with (mainly the extra 15 lb/ft, thats hard to come by with a b16). even leaving it mostly stock will net u good et's.

1200 for a greddy turbo kit? last time i checked it was 2k without an intercooler. do u have a website were i could find this. im interested

If you only want mid-low 14's then the GSR motor is the way to go. GSR motor with bolt ons and a good driver is mid to low 14's easy. And how much more reliable can you get than a gsr motor with simple bolt ons? Hell, I've got a GSR motor with 190K on it in my hatch and as soon as I cut that 2.2 60' I'm running 14's. Great motor. It's gonna cost a lil more than the $2000 you have, but it's worth the extra $1000 or so. Just save up a little bit more.

yeah the b18c is surely worth the extra 1000. that extra 15 lb/ft will help u a lot with the launches. i dont know how expirienced u are with launching hondas but if this is ur first run at one then the better power band of the b18 will be more forgiving. and more consistant. but money is money, a b16 is still good motor
