I have 97 civic ex coupe want to make a 5 speed what tranny can i get
I have 97 civic ex coupe want to make a 5 speed what tranny can i get. Would a 88-91 crx si tranny be the easiest if so does anyone have one.

don't waste your time with a dx / cx / lx / vx tranny... they're ***. also a tranny from a 4th gen is probably beat to **** already, and won't work without extra work because they're a cable clutch.
you want a tranny from a 96-00 civic ex (d16y8). next best is the 92-95 civic ex/si tranny (d16z6) - same gearing, but has weaker aluminum shift forks.
actually, if you don't mind paying $500 get a jdm d15b tranny with the lsd already in it (same gears too). http://www.hyperducktuning.com is the only place that really has them.

any 92+D-series hydro tranny will work...as said, the EX/Si ones have the best gearing...the 88-91 trannies are cable clutch and will not work.

Yeah, like these guys said stay with your model and get the 96-00 ex tranny. It has better gearing from the factory than a lot of the other manuals.

No, because your tranny is already hydro. You really just need the tranny from what I know.

no.. it would be much harder.
you need a lot of **** (tranny, ecu[not really], clutch assembly, pedal, intake manifold, etc etc etc). a lot of ****. go look up in that faq thread up top, i think there's a link in there. then hit that little search button up there. search this forum's archives for 'auto manual conversion'. next time, do that before you make a thread that has been beat to death 1000 times.
