hydroplaned, now CEL is on?
sup my brother has a 96 civic ex, he hydroplaned, his air filter got wet, his car nose dived in some water in a ditch.. now he has a CEL on and went to autozone and the printout says:
Definition
BBIntermittent interruption in TDC 1 sensor circuit
Probable Cause
BB1. - Open or short circuit condition
BB2.- Poor electrical connection
BB3.-Failed TDC sensor
So his car is running, he has been driving it, just fine, no problems, is it possible the moisture/possible water has shorted this sensor out? If so would the car still run and vtec work? Any ideas?

like what i say to everyone who comes in for a CEL its a process of elimination...check everything that could cause the code and if it seems to be malfunctioning replace it... reset the ecu and if it comes back on have it checked if its the same one repeat the process of elimination

its intermittent... probably a ton of moisture trapped inside

Re: hydroplaned, now CEL is on?
yea well his car nose dived into water on the left side, he said his headlight was almost down into the water. He does tend to drive fast, but he said he popped a hill and there was a small creek going across the road that was bout 4" deep. Regardless we can reset the code and see if it returns but we left the CEL on in case we wanted to bring it somewhere and have someone else pull the code. I was kinda curious where that sensor was, if it is on the timing belt side that very well could be the problem. I'm tempted to tell him just have the code reset since the car "appears" to be running fine.. funnily since this happened his IACV has started to act up..

did he hydroplane or did he hydro lock?
confusing post
wet filter makes me think hydro lock, but ya really these cars don't like that much water. it flooded really bad out here once and me and my friend's honda's both got some water splashed up in the bay and they shut off (not hydrolocked) and the next morning when they dried out a little they were fine :-)
i'd say reset the code, (i'm guessing it has dried out since) and see what happens if it comes back start checking sensors like someone above me mentioned.

i'm not ignorant ya know... trust me he hit the "creek" flowing across the road, hyrdoplaned spun around and slid 60 ft into the ditch which was FULL of water, the front end of his car was in water to the point that his driver side headlight was almost submerged- as stated above.. he has driven the car a few hundred miles since and say he is not having anymore problems, besides IACV acting up since that day, for whatever reason...
