How to stop the axle from moving when removing or putting on axle nut?
How do you guys remove or tighten back on the axle nut without the axle or hub moving on you. I will be using a 600lb impact gun on it to take it off but when putting it back on I plan on to torque it. How do I stop the axle from turning.

damn 600 lb impact gun? where did you pick that up from?
I think you could put the car in first gear and it should hold there.

600 lb impac t ist very much.. it prob isnt 600 in reverse anyways.. and with an impact you dont need to do **** but pull the trigger..even that little pounded in tab will move itself with an impact.

The 600lb impact gun I got is made by Ingersol-Rand. The model of it is 2131QT. QT stands for quiet tool. I got this from Sears for close to 200 bucks. It's the blue impact gun if you go look at it.

hand tighten the axle nut onto the hub. put the wheel back on, remove the center cap....
once the car is on the ground, there will be a load on it... now you can have somebody hold the break and you can do your magic

those things come in handy when you need to break crank pulley bolt. That's the only thing that could break 2 of my friends crank pulley bolts.

stick a fairly thick screw driver inside one of the vent holes in the rotor, and the caliper will stop it from turning depending on the direction ya want it to go.

just impact it on, why torque it, it's not like there's a preload on the bearings.
and the best impact on the market is the ingorsoll and rand T1, it has a 1000ft/lbs. of torque, and it's super light

easiest way will be to put it in a gear and leave it like that it will hold the rotor
I'm in the process of putting a new d15 in my civic and to take the nut off we had to put it in gear and it worked just fine so i'm guessing it would do the same putting it back on...i'll know next saturday when we finish good luck
