How to get off wheel hub?
I guess that's what the part is called. Ended up trying to swap out my lug nuts this weekend and on the last tire I broke- not 1, not 2, but 3 bolts on one wheel. I know, I know.
anyways, picked up some new wheel studs (.99 @ autozone) and went to work taking the wheel/brakes apart. The hex nut was a B!^@# but finally managed to get it off (though it took a 6 foot extension to do it)
After that I expected the hub(?) (part with the studs in it) to just pop right off, but I can't get it to budge. The haynes manual doesn't show a breakdown for this part.. is there some trick, or something I'm missing? I HAVE to get this off!!
Thanks!

it has to be pressed off. you can drill out the existing broken off studs, then trim off a section of the "head" of the wheel bolt and sneak them in from the back.

Not to be a tool but what exactly do you mean- pressed off?
Where would I have to take it? would a gear puller work?
Right now, I'm looking at - if I can't get this off myself I have to tow it- which I don't want to do...

Re: How to get off wheel hub? (ripthesystem)
ok since all I'm essentially trying to do is replace the studs.. I've done a lot of reading today. Seems the easiest most recommended way is to put the stud in the 9 o'clock position (drivers side front) and cut out the section of the shield in the way and hammer it out.
That much I've managed to do. I have 1 stud out.
Is there a good way to get the hammer back in there to put the new one in? there's not much clearance at all.. or am I barking up the wrong tree??

You have done way more than bark up the wrong tree, you have pissed and **** on it.

Re: How to get off wheel hub? (Pho Real)
what you will want to do is get the begging of the stuf threw the hub. then get some washers that are bigger than the stud but not bigger than the nut. put some ati seize on the stud, put the washers on (about a half and inch will do most of the time), put the nut on and tighten it till the stud pulls all the way up agaist the back of the hub. this wroks best with a 1/2 impact gun. good luck.

grind down a section of the new wheel stud so you can get it in, its a tight fit but it will go in, then use a hammer and a screw driver or something like that to pound it in.

yeah don't bother doing it the easy/right way. waste your time trying to grind it down and then trying to beat it in with a hammer and screw driver. just do as i said. it took me a total of about 10 min to get the caliper off and put the new stud in.
