"HOW TO: Fitting HX rims on big calipers."
okay since they're are a lot of people that wonder if they can fit HX rims on their car, and since i had a set. i decided to do a write up on it. the car is a 90 EX civic(hence the name). even though it is a ED(EF for all you other people) the EX model use's the bigger brakes; i.e. 10.3 rotors. so this would imply for all you other EX guys and SI(EM1) car owners. this would also include integra owners too. so here goes,
this is why the HX rims won't fit; notice the ring inside the rim
here is a better view;
^this is what is rubbing against the caliper. if you're wondering im guessing this is from the preveis owner.
the brakes;
^if you look closly you can see some scrapage from my earlier test fitting.
what to grind;
^were my finger is pointing at is what you have to grind down
how it looks once you start to grind it down;
i used a colored crayon to mark it. this is to see if it still rubs;
i test fitted the HX rim on and tried to spin it to see if it would catch, and this is what i saw;
^as you can see it was still catching a little bit. notice some of the crayon had rubbed off on the edge.
i grinded off some more;
i then rubbed some more crayon on the caliper and test fitted;
^as you can see after spinning the wheel a couple of times around, and taking off the rim. it looked good and didn't catch anywhere.
now i know a lot of you guys say use wheel spacers but i just don't like the idea of it. this only took me an hour to do both sides. would have been quicker but this all includes taking pictures and test fitting. hope you like.
EDIT* ALMOST FORGOT. WHEN GRINDING DON'T FOR GET TO PUT A LUG NUT ON WHEN GRINDING. YOU WILL MORE THEN LIKELY HIT IT, SO TO BE KIND TO YOUR WHEEL STUDS, PUT ON A LUG NUT.

Thanks a bunch for the write-up man, this is really useful for me as I have GSR front calipers and the HXs won't fit at all on my EJ1. If only I had seen this sooner. What did you use to scrape, a filer?

good write up. i just did this to a friends eg 2 weeks ago.
I don't recommend the use of wheel spacers unless you have extended wheel studs as the stock studs will only leave around 3-4 threads (or less depending on spacer thickness) to bolt the wheels on.

I'm glad I read this before I picked up a set of HXs, I've been looking for some for months. I've got an EJ1 with GSR brakes all around. Good write-up.
