The way you can tell what year it is, is that the '96-up- if you look at the timing belt cover, on the right side of it. There will be a wire going behind the crank pully. That wire is for the #1 posission senser. Also, the injector plugs snap in, instead of the '95-lowers, they have a wire clip that holds them to the injectors.

OBD 0 B16A - white plugs on the dist
OBD 1 B16A - gray plugs (2) on the dist
OBD 2 B16A - gray plug (1) on the dist
You can also look at the head stamp. It should say (9|9) or (0|0).
Also, the 96+ B16 US version will have a VIN plate on the block by the bottom of the header, and a VIN plate on the tranny by the block code bar.
Also, if you get the entire swap, the 99-2k SI has a 1pc wire harness that should be long enough to reach inside the passenger compartment, and will have the ECU plugs connected directly to it.

I'd try looking on the head, if there are stock headers you may have a little trouble looking past the heat sheild.

A quick check would be to look at the valve cover if it is a JDM motor.
SiR I=big dohc small vtec
SiR II=small dohc big vtec
if its an USDM motor look on the block it will have a number after the engine code
(ie)B16A3 USDM SI motor
I suggest looking at the block.

if it's a legit block...just run the vin plate on carfax....if the vin plate is missing...you should start to question your purchase.
