I ahve apexi Gt headers and they are rainbow colored and dull looking. ANy DIY or tips???

I would like to know. But i have DC sport ceramic and i got those burn looking marks, anyone know how to clean those or a paint to cover it that holds that much heat?

yah i too have DC 4-1 ceramics and want to know a good method of cleaning them without leaving weird looking spots on it.......

I have an RS*R stainless header, and although it's supposed to be stainless, and the car was only driven about 1000 KM during the winter, there's corosion marks ALL OVER it, I'd really like to know how to get rid of the marks. I heard blue steel or something like that (exhaust polish from bike shop) will help with general cleaning but I don't know if it will help my problem. anyone else know???

i'm assuming you have a SS, since you say you get rainbows. back in the day, i remember thats the only reason why people got the stainless (for the rainbow effect), instead of ceramic. for repainting ceramic, i dont remember what kind of paint. i remember my brother repainting his exhaust piping with some type of high temp paint. i think it was some type of high temp paint for engines.

depending on how bad they are just some degreaser will clean off some of it. I have some weird citrus clean stuff, that i have no clue where it came from.

When I was painting my rims, they had some slight rust marks and **** left after I sanded them, I took some of that citrus clean and it took of the extra rust and shined them up surprisingly good.

If i remember tomorrow, I'll get more details on it.

you COULD buy that HIGH temp paint, make sure to get the HIGHER temp, and CURE it in your oven before installing it on your motor.
if you dont cure it, it will melt off and look worse than before.
and the stainless rainbow looks nice.

i have the same problem on mine 2... i was considering some quality header tape.., there must be some good stuff out there.. have not done any reading yet, but does look better than bad discolouring ??

I want to how to clean the SS header as well, as I have so many fingerprints left all over on it and I've tried using Autosol but no luck.

Most of the issues with SS headers stem back to the initial install. If you don't wipe off any grease and or oils from tools or hands these will be almost permanantly stuck on the header. Best way to deal with this is wipe the header down REALLY well before the first start of the motor after the install.

like upgraded said you have to get all of the fingerprints and stuff off before you ever start the car with your new header on. You should wear gloves and eliminate the need to clean. The rainbow color on your stainless headers can be removed by repolishing the header. If the header was clean when you started the stainless turns a nice golden color. If you want it to stay shiny silver its not going to happen.

best solution is elbow grease! i used some wd-40 with fine steel wool and they look great, they still have a beautiful golden glow but no rust or rainbow effect anymore. also for SS headers a tip is to use vht header paint and paint the inside of the tubes. yes i said INSIDE of the tubes, just spray the paint inside heavily and let it run down. do it on each tube. the paint will act as a barrier and it will not burn off and the header will not discolor any further.

Try Mothers Mag and Aluminum Cleaner. Comes in a little can at any auto parts store. THE BEST I have ever used. The nice part is a little goes a long way. Obviously you want to have the headers cool before you start. This stuff should take care of the blue effect.
