Put some real grease on the latch -white lithium would work.

Ok. Trying a new hood latch; still have old one. I have a helper. So far, we verified that the cable works, and it is doing the exact same thing: "Does not want to fully close."

Turns out it is the hood...

So now I have a used, functioning latch as a spare part. LOL

First thing I noticed: Hood appears to be from a sedan, not a coupe/hatch. Fitment is wrong, and it will lead to that problem.

I agree, I am very likely going to have to be getting a new hood at some point. (Same way I had to get a new trunk, after it was stolen.)

Another detail: This started after some unknown person, probably in a large S.U.V. like a Suburban, appears to have backed into the driver side. There is not "damage" but now the headlight is off oh so slightly. And the hood appears off "about 1 inch." This hood always USED to close perfectly.

We brought the hood latch "up," tightened the screws on the back of the hood by the windshield, and verified that it is not closing in the "middle" of the metal brace on the hood.

My mechanic says I need a "frame straightening?" ...
