Could be a number of things. Heres a couple of examples to get you started though:
1. Fuel pump taking a ****, no fuel no go.
2. Not getting enough spark, to much fuel no go.
3. Timing belt could have jumped.
Fuel, spark, timing. 3 main things to start, and keep a motor running. Also you could have ran out of air. (HA! before any smart *** says "you forgot air" )

How do you run OUT of air? 3/4 of the earth is air.

It could be the factory-set rev-limiter (I'll keep the duh comments to myself).

Re: high rpm shut off (SOHC4life 96)
only like 17% of air at sea level is oxygen, and at 6800 RPM his air filter may be clogged or his intake track too restrictive to deliver enough to combust

Re: high rpm shut off (the Reaper Grim)
Does the engine stall and die completely and he needs to turn the key to restart it, or it just dies for a second and then he gets power back? If the latter..............
