HID troubles
First off, wanted to say this is a great site and love the amount of info that can be found here. I'm a new civic owner, hence this being my first post.
Anyways, I bought my '99 civic ex last week from someone who has done a few things to the car already. One of them being HID's. At the time I didn't know any better and thought "Hey cool, $500 bright *** lights are already on the car". What I didn't know was how messed up the light reflection is. I mean I'm lighting up the tops of trees and can see across a 4 lane road while I'm driving parallel to it. I feel bad for all the drivers in the opposing lane and have had several people flash me already. Now I've read through a lot of the HID thread on the FAQ page but I'm still curious as how to fix my problem. Are there any ways to keep the light focused on the ground, or at least any type of eyelids or internal covers to block out the glare? I get nervous driving at night now in fear of being pulled over.
Anyone in the same boat as me or know what to do? Thanks

go to getdistracted.com/forum in the speed limit section download the manual for your car. in the manual it will teach you how to adjust your lights up and down and left and right

yeah, i had euro-code headlights on my vw corrado, it lit up the freeway signs and everything, PROJECTED too... HID's are kinda annoying, i say you lightly tint the heads to help it from being so glary, it will remain bright though

Re: (SkIp_Civic_Ek6)
i had to take out the entire assembly, ajust the screws all the way out and then gradually ajust them in. i now can see everything for about a 1/8 mile down the road with confidence

Re: (wspcivic)
That's what I think I'm going to do. If I angle the light down far enough, the side glare probably won't matter. As I was driving last night, I found that the worst of it is at about 45 degrees outside and about 7 feet at 30 yards. Angling it down might take care of it. Now does anyone have a good working link of how to remove the housings. I just dont want to screw anything up.

Its because they probably only spent $300 on a bulb conversion, but that doesn't properly convert the car to HID's.
You need a proper HID projector and convert your headlight housings for HID's.
Here's a nice writeup:

You can search ebay for hid projectors, and some have high and low beam. Also search for bi-xenon projectors.
The problem is, the bulbs you have only work with the light socket in your stock headlights. I'd just sell them and get a complete HID kit with projectors, bulbs, balasts, etc.

Re: HID troubles (drewucf)
I think you have the wrong set of HID's
Civics and most cars have a high beam and low beam. HID's have only one setting as it is used with another beam which acts as High beam.
What you should have bought is a HID bulb with low and high beam. The HID kit you have has a different light position due to your HID being only single beam only.
I suggest changing them or changing the relay and getting a set of higher wattage bulbs that is of OEM style. There are pretty good ones now available that looks like HID but doesnt cause reliablity and or headlight focus issues.

Re: HID troubles (crxxxme)
Nope, I disagree....
Its simply because the standard headlight housing can't support the use of a HID bulb without having a HID projector lense.
Look here for parts for conversion as well:
