Probably because wheels are adjacent to brakes, which get very hot . . .
I melted the center caps off of my Rotas at the last track day I attended.

You should try to strip the entire outer coat off. Use some industrial strength paint stripper and some different grits of sanding paper (high grit preferably). Go to work and recoat with whatever paint you want.
I've coated with $.80 rattle cans from Wal-Mart, paint stayed on for 12 months before I stripped them down for a recoat. IMO, no need for high-temp paint. Then again, it also matter on what you use your car for, just like Targa250R stated.

That's what you get for getting knockoff center caps. If you would have bought the heat treated Rays ones you wouldnt have melted them off.

If I would have bought Rays wheels, I wouldn't have been able to afford to go to the track day.
