Default hey guys whats up new to the civic world have some questions

Hey whats up guys?
Well ill just ask straight out what i want to know.

are there any technical (trans, engine, ect...) differences between an lx civic and say an eg civic. (i have no idea how many different Types of civics there are out there, or even what the different types are... any info on this and the differences between them would be greatly appreciated)

what year did they start makeing the pre 2000 model year civic body style (i think its 3rd gen???)

and lastly i heard that almost all integra stuff bolts right up to civic stuff. is this true?

for all the people that want to scream at me about using search... I DID..
and damn civic comes up sooo many times that is near impossible to find what i need without spending 4 days looking through all the hits..

sorry if this is a stupid post but i am interested in getting rid of my 300zx and getting one

EDIT: one more thing what are the different engines that come stock with the civic?? which of those engines have vtec and are dohc or sohc and so on...

TIA

eg is part of the chassis code(eg6,ek9,whatever)... you'll usually find people referring to 92-95 civics (which are 5th gen) as eg, and 96-00 (6th gen) as ek.
LX is a just trim level, like DX,VX,EX,etc.

answered above

It's true... basically everything from a 94-01 Integra will bolt up right up to a 92-95 civic. Most stuff will also fir the 96-00 civic with minor modification.

too many to list. visit hondaswap.com and check the reference section for all the different engines.

this is off the top of my head:

92-95 EX/Si: D16Z6 SOHC VTEC, 125hp

92-95 DX/LX: D15B? SOHC non-VTEC, 102hp

92-95 VX: don't know the engine code, SOHC VTEC-E (economy), don't know hp.

92-95 CX: don't know the engine code, SOHC non-VTEC, 75hp

92?-97 Del Sol VTEC: B16A3/2 DOHC VTEC, 160hp (B16A3 from 92(not sure, correct me if i'm wrong) to 95 and B16A2 in 96 and 97. only difference is A3 is OBDI and A2 is OBDII)

96-00 EX: D16Y8 SOHC VTEC, 127hp

96-00 HX: D16Y5 SOHC VTEC-E, 115hp

96-00 DX/CX/LX: D16Y7 SOHC non-VTEC, 106hp

99-00 Si: B16A2 DOHC VTEC 160hp

correct me if any of the stats are wrong

ok, so first off, here are all the model numbers explained, lyke what's an eg, ej, ek, and so forth
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=694733

about the 94-01 integra bolting on, most of the things will work, but it's all stuff that mounts onto the chassis since the 92-95 civic 'n the 94-01 civic use the same chassis i believe. So for example, you can buy an integra hood, fender, front bumper, headlight support, and im not sure what else you need, but it'll bolt right onto a civic, im sure you know that they have completely different engines.

the jdm zc d16 or whatever is the only dohc engine that comes stock in a civic i believe, someone correct me if im wrong. but other than than the SOHC engines, you got the d15, the d16 and the d17. there's so many god damn variations though that it makes my head hurt, so im gonna quit while im ahead, lol, im sure someone knowledgable will come along 'n tell u everything he knows

no civics in america had a DOHC except for the 92-97 Del Sol VTEC and 99-00 Civic Si which had the B16A3/2. globally, civics have had many variations of the B16A, B18C, and ZC engines.

the only cars with the DOHC ZC engine that were released in america were the 1st gen integras, and it was labeled as the D16A.

well im 17 now and i bought my z myself when i was 16 because i had always loved those cars. found a 93 with 58k on the engine. it was just a real prestine car so i bought it.

now almost 18 and prepareing for college i need something a little more economical, less expensive to insure (going on my own policy now so it will be even MORE money to insure), practical, and versatile.
i am also really attracted to the cost/vtec/tuneing potential of a civic.
the ammount of money i would pour into my Z is considerably more than the money i would dump into a civic if i had one. im really into modding cars and the civic is simply put A LOT easier to work on... just search for a pic of a 93+ 300zx engine bay and youll know what i mean..

a civic also doesnt attract nearly as much attention as my car.... it seems that everytime i go out some *** wants to race me?! it jsut get tireing after a while...

and think about this for the money i can sell my Z for (hopefully around 10) i could get a used 92-2000 civic with tons of miles, build a b18c1 or b18c5 with turbo or supercharger and pop it in as soon as the engine is complete!

thats just my train of thought though.... any input/ suggestions

That's almost true, the del Sol didn't get the B16 in America until 1994 when the VTEC model was introduced, but Japan had it all along and the del Sol didn't come to America until 93 either.

It seems like a lot of people are giving into Civics and Honda. Personally myself I've always loved Honda's, but hated rice looking cars and body kits... Most ppl on Honda-tech feel the same.

I've owned a few hybrids, i.e. engine from another car into another chassis... I love the power, I don't think I would race anything else. The 92-95 civic hatch back is so light, very very easy to hybrid, and can take a superior suspension. I think it was a very good design as well.

BTW, I like the Z's... However, I think you will find Honda's high revving (b18c -- as suggested) engine a very good, and cost effective replacement!

LOL covocs get the same treatment. Hondas as a whole get that far more than a Z. I was just wondering. I have been looking for a Z32 for god knows how long. They had at a local Nissan dealer. I begged and pleaded with my wife and she finally said yes. Went to the dealer, they had sold it about two hours prior.....how is that . Good luck with whatever you get. I personally drive a Honda but I am a Nissan guy through and through. How much you selling your Z for???

yeah, in my first post i said i wasn't sure what year they released the VTEC model, so i just assumed it was 92.

i dont really consider the Del Sol to be a civic, even though they are EG's.
