Default Help with wheel paint and balancing!

Alright, I have painted my wheels. I applied one layer of clear,so far, last night. There are a few spots that are a lil thick and runny and need to be sanded. What grit of sand paper should i use to just smooth down the clear coat???

EDIT: Alright... i went home to wet sand the clearcoat because it turned yellow after one coat(in some spots). After thoroughly examining the wheel, i decided I am going to put a lil more paint. I've already sanded the clearcoat off! I was wondering if I should put another layer of primer on before I paint some more? Or just go ahead and paint?

Cliffnote: sanded off clearcoat. should i primer before another layer paint? or just paint

Wetsand with 2000 grit.

I've never balanced a motorcycle tire, but it couldn't hurt to try.

sorry about the confusion.... I do need to know how to balance a car tire. I've balanced motorcycle tires before. Just didn't know if its any different.

Wetsand??? What do u mean? Literally wet it and sand it? Sorry, but i don't know to much about paint and body stuff.

Yes.

I'm not sure how you balance a motorcycle tire,

but on the machines i used, you put the wheel on, with "fingers'" a disc with interchangeable medal rods of different sizes (one in each lug hole) tighten.
and tell the machine to spin.

it will then use a display with leds that tell you where to put the weights and how much weight to use. when it is in the middle, you put the wieght on top. you can hammer weights on, but since you have painted rims you'll probably want to use sticky weights. etc.
you put on the weights and spin. hopefully it says its balanced if not, add/remove or move the weight according tot he machine. DO NOT COUNTERBALANCE.

hope that helps, I tried to explain it as best as I can, if you have any specific questions ask me.

I heard Claybar gets ried of runnyness from the paint and things like that, so you might be able to use that if you dont want to try to wet sand. Wet sand can leave the rim very wavy in the paint if not done right, and it will show in the paint.

For wheel balance you need to take it to a shop. Its not the same as a motorcycle blancing, and you are probably going to want "hidden" weights where they are on the inside and that is very hard to balance even on the machines. Take it to a shop and ask for 00 00 not 00 25 bull **** that they do from time to time.

well, you guys have answered my questions. thanks guys.

i figured that car rims are alot different than motorcycle (balancing wise), but i didn't know if someone figured a way to balance ur own tires to save money. my whole life me and my dad have changed our own motorcycle tires, so we have a balancing table stand, manual tire changer, and weights . so i can do everything at home but balance, DAMNIT!

i'll try the wet sand. thanks again guys

if you are military or know someone who is, the nearest base to you will have equipment you can use for cheap.

but i think mount and balance is only like 12 a wheel at sears

$12 bucks a tire, thats almost fifty bucks that i could use to survive for the next two weeks. there is a place about ten minutes from me i'll go to. hopefully they will cut me a deal just to balance. since i am going to mount them myself.

I work at Sears balancing, mounting, repairing tires all day. Its not 12 a wheel, its 12 for all wheels. Actually i think were cheaper like 9.99 or 10.99 something like that.

You work at sear :-)? I used to work at the auto center here in pensacola, the price I gave was wat they charged for mount and balance, balance is cheaper.

IMO, you'd want to just paint, as long as you have primer und the paint thats already there.

i figured it would be ok just to paint again, once i sanded all of the clear coat off. do i have to let the paint set for so long before i clear coat??

also, why would the clear coat turn yellow in some spots, apparently u can't spray clear coat as thick as paint?

Yeah, I'd let it sit at least over night, yeah you cant spray it too thick or too early, I learned this from experience.
