Default Help! Sputtering randomly on acceleration

honda civic non v-tec 4cyl D16y7.

Randomly hesitates during take off from a stop will sometimes die. No mater how much you push on the petal it will slowly drop RPM and once in a while will die. When it dies takes approxamately 20 to 30 seconds to restart. Other times it will come out of it and take off. Have put it in neutral when it starts to mess up and still does the same thing. Replaced everything from the exhaust manifold back. Also put a different TPS and MAP sensor. It idles fine so dont think it is the IAC. Have also dont plugs, wires, cap, button and new theromstat. At a loss of what the issue is. Does any one have any ideas to what it could be. The CEL is not on.

How is your air filter?

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Ever had your injectors cleaned? (Techron from Chevron or Wynn's Power Charge both are very effective cleaners)

When you say you've replaced the TPS, what was the voltage output at closed throttle? And did the voltage go up smoothly as you opened the throttle? And what was your wide open throttle voltage?

What plugs did you put in? What brand wires?

Your CEL coming on?

Have you done a compression test, dry followed by wet? What were the results?

Air filter and fuel filter both changed. have used lucas and seafoam. tps would gradually go up when checked with a volt meter off the car. put iridium plugs in and duralast wires rotor and button. no CEL and have not dont a compression test.

seafoam after new plugs?

I've heard time and time again seafoam fouls plugs.

Also have been told numerous times to stick to NGK plugs, and NGK wires.

You can ohm test your wires but I suspect they will pass without issues.

The other possibility is your cat is partially clogged. You say you've replaced your full exhaust though.....

So really, could be your injectors are not spraying properly.

Wynn's Power Charge, or Chevron's Techron are very effective fuel injection cleaners.

The other option is to pull the injectors and send them in for servicing. In the USA I've heard of the service only costing around 15 bucks an injector.

Also, have you checked to be sure your mechanical timing is correct? And what about your ignition timing?

Of note, this only shows the TPS operates smoothly. If it's not calibrated properly (putting out proper voltage when closed throttle) your car will act wrong. You have to check the voltage of the tps with the car on and the throttle closed. It should be 0.48v.

Sounds like you need a Factory Service Manual aka the Helm's manual.

I'm not sure the effectiveness of Luca injector cleaner. I don't know it's PEA content if any. PEA is the magic ingredient that is proven and well documented on it's effectiveness.

I do know that both Techron and Wynn's Power Charge are proven unlike most other products, that's why I mentioned them. Techron is the original PEA product, everyone else hopped on after Chevron introduced the product due to it's effectiveness.

Ultimately your choice though.

I'm assuming since it's the Y7 it's a 96-00 civic DX or CX.

Google may provide you results if you search for 96-00 factory service manual.
