Help On Silencing My Exhaust
I have a b18b1 with a dc sport 4-2-1 header, ebay 2.5 inch high flow cat, and 2.5 inch mandrel bent megan racing exhaust system with a resonator.
I love the note of my exhaust (very deep, mean sound) but it is just too loud. Are there any mufflers out there that can quiet the sound a little, or alot, while still staying relatively free-flow and have a nice sound?
I'm afraid I'll ruin the sound by putting a new muffler on, I don't want anything high pitch or an "angry bumble bee" type sound. I also don't want anything too restrictive. I've been contemplating an es oval or magnaflow oval but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for. Does flow master have a muffler that'll work for me?
Thanks in advance for any help/ suggestions

Flowmaster flow terrible, try a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, they're decent flow and quiet it alot. Best muffler i've used with the most power gains is a turbo though.

Hmm I'll have to look into that, does anyone else have some more experience with these?

can't. it's welded to the midsection of the exhaust and i would rather not mess with my whole exhaust system, when I can get the desired effect with only a muffler. Plus the resonator is already 18inch.

I completely forgot about the twin loop and I also have heard good things about these. So it really does flow well and is quiet?
Thanks for all the input

Re: Help On Silencing My Exhaust (CivicVX94)
I found a few different twin loop design mufflers. Which ones would you recommend? Does anyone know of a company that sells an axle back twin loop muffler that I could just bolt on? Thanks again

Super turbo muffler...
Someone will probably chime in with one, you'd probably have to have the back half of the exhaust redone...
I've ran a regular turbo mufffler, they sound kind of cool, but they flow like crap because they don't have the directors.

You're gonna have the "angry bumble-bee" sound from any aftermarket performance muffler. If you want to quiet it down, look at a stock muffler. I've also heard of using stock S2000 mufflers if you want something that flows better.

Hmm...I'll have to look into these too. My car will be boosted soon if that'll make a difference. I know it will get somewhat quieter boosted but it most likely will not be quiet enough.

Nah...that angry bumble bee sounds comes from too restrictive of a muffler, the exhaust note gets all raspy, high pitch, and everything rattles (we all know what I'm talking about) bc the muffler is too restrictive or small for the engine. A performance muffler allows the gases to exit freely and it will be a lower pitch bc of no/less restriction. I will not put a stock civic muffler back on because of this, but I'll look into the S2k ones. I've seen an ep muffler on an eg, how well do they flow compared to aftermarket mufflers?

Re: Help On Silencing My Exhaust (CivicVX94)
Dynomax makes them.
If you're going turbo, just leave the set-up you have and deal with it until, you want the highest possible flow exhaust with a turbo or you'll notice power loss, after the turbo, the exhaust will be considerably quieter.

Twin loop or a larger factory muffler
A longer resonator might work, but I don't think as much as you'd like.....

These all look pretty good, they're all stainless steel but...
1) Its 27'' long. Thats pretty long, might want to measure..?
2) This is obx.. there is a few clips/reviews on this site about it. This is probably what I'll get.
3) This one looks good as-well, but the inlet is only 2'' diameter so.... you're pretty limited.

Ah...good call on that 27 inch is most likely way too long, and the last one, with the 2 inch diameter, is too small so it looks like I'll go with the obx if i decide to go with a twin loop muffler.
Thanks for your help

Re: Help On Silencing My Exhaust (tuck'd98)
I've got a custom 2.5 inch system on my EG with a GSR in it that consists of the following. Two vibrant 18 inch resinators in 2.5 inch http://www.vibrantperformance....4.pdf (the ones in the bottom left). A Borla straight through muffler in 2.5 inch http://www.borla.com/products/...flers. A 2.5 inch Walker http://www.walkerexhaust.com/ cat (its not as good as a high flow but I just use it in the winter and for emitions). I also have a Vibrant 4-1 stainless header http://www.vibrantperformance....7.pdf. This setup sounds really nice, no raspiness, you can barely hear it until you stand on it and even then its not that loud.
My brother had the same setup on his Del Sol w/ B16 but in 3 in and it was really ******* loud (he was planning to put ina turbo) yet my 2.5 is super quiet, no raspiness, but it makes all the right sounds. Also if you add a header it will make the note more raspy. As for the size or restictivness of the exhaust will not affect the amplitude of the raspiness, it is not due to things vibrating etc. Just try running open header its raspy as hell. The raspiness is from the type of motor, cumbustion chamber shape, displacement and RPM. If you are going to be going turbo then you will want to go 3 inch. With the parts listed above in 3inch on an NA motor will be VERY deep and fairly loud (NO RASPINESS). My brother added a Dynatech Vortex right at the end of the manifold http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs...19855 and it helped a lot. Hope this helps.
