I parked my car earlier today, and 2 hours later i get this scraping sound whenever i shift. Its comming from the bottom of the shifter in the joint. and it sounds and feels like slate scraping against slate.. its not loud, but what the **** is it?

could be a heat shield or your exhaust piping. go under the car and check it out.

It sounds like it might be the bottom of the shifter rubbing on the exhaust piping. Is it a short throw?

Is your car gutted? If the socket that the shiter pivits in got dirt or M&M's in it that would do it. Pull it out and clean and regrease it.

the bar next to it is loose too..

any idea how much this is going to cost... that is the absolute furthest i can get under the car so i need to have someone else lift it up..

but now that i look at it again, i cant see the linkage rubbing against anything!
im gonna have to take it to pep boys or something!
